The hardest thing about sales is feeling like you are pushing your message, value, or pitch onto someone. Even the most hard nose closers who are ready to sell to anyone will have higher conversion rates when the client is reaching out to them rather than being cold called by the sales agent.

In this episode I play a live call I had with a client who was 1 of 22 people I spoke with that day. Took me 3 hours to speak to 22 people who were calling me. Out of those 22 people I sold 3 of them which net me $3600 in commission. The other 19 I was able to help with another product, good, or service and still made money.

Today I spoke to 28 people. Not one of them bought anything from me. Yet I was still able to offer them tremendous value, and earn money doing it. They never paid me. They never bought anything from me, nor did money leave their pockets. Yet I still was able to make money. How did I do it? The great thing about the Internet is that it allows easy and quick set up of a business with relatively low start up costs. The downside is you now have people with no idea of marketing or business trying to make money. That’s a recipe for disaster.

One common issue new people starting out online is distraction by “shiny objects”. Just like a real shiny object distracts the mind of a child off the task at hand, the Internet marketing “shiny object” distracts the would be entrepreneur from proper business foundations.

The problem with shiny objects is that they are not long term solutions. It would be great if you found a way to exploit Google’s algorithm… until they changed it. And then what? You are back to square one and you can start your “business” all over again.

Don’t get me wrong I am not saying all things we buy are shiny objects.
