TERRY WILSON / LEADERSHIP + BUSINESS GROWTH
Better thinking.
Stronger systems.
Real-world follow-through.
Why I bring mindset and mechanics together in my speaking, coaching, and consulting—and what that can mean for your organization.
MECHANICS · How the work gets done
You can leave an event fired up and still walk into the same problems Monday morning.
You can also buy a powerful business tool and spend the next six months wondering why nobody uses it.
One gives you energy without a clear way to act. The other gives you capability without the clarity to use it well.
I believe the opportunity is in bringing those two things together. Better thinking. Better tools. A practical connection between the two. That is what I mean by mindset and mechanics, and it is the combination I bring to my work as a speaker, coach, and consultant.
What are mindset and mechanics in business?
Mindset is how you see yourself, communicate with others, make decisions, and respond when things get difficult. Mechanics are the tools, processes, and routines that turn those decisions into daily action.
A leader may care deeply about customers. But if inquiries sit unanswered, the customer experiences the missed response. A team may have excellent software. But if people do not understand their responsibilities, the software cannot create shared ownership for them.

The mindset: understand the person behind the performance
A business is made up of people. People with strengths, blind spots, expectations, fears, and different ways of processing information. If we skip that part, we can spend a lot of time solving the wrong problem.
What looks like a motivation problem may be an unclear expectation. What sounds like resistance may be a person who needs a better explanation. What feels like a marketing problem may begin with a leader who has trouble explaining the value of the offer.
My background includes credentials and training in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®), along with my work with Ascend360 leadership assessments. I bring that experience into conversations about self-awareness, communication, leadership, and clarity.
The purpose is practical: ask better questions, recognize patterns, and help people choose more useful responses. An assessment should open a conversation, not close someone inside a label. The real work is what a leader does with the insight.
My takeaway is straightforward: how people are led deserves serious attention. Through my leadership and business coaching, I help connect that attention to a practical next step.
The mechanics: give good intentions somewhere to go
Once we have clarity, we need a way to carry it into the business. That is where my experience with CRM systems, SEO, digital marketing, graphic design, AI, merchant services, and other business tools becomes useful.
The value is in matching the tool to the problem. A long list of features does very little for an owner who needs a simpler way to serve customers.
- CRM and follow-up: Give inquiries an owner, a next action, and a place to track the conversation.
- SEO, marketing, and design: Help the right people find an offer, understand it, and recognize the next step.
- AI: Support useful tasks such as drafting, organizing, and responding, with human review where judgment matters.
- Merchant services: Make it easier to move from a customer’s decision to a completed payment.
I have written about why small businesses struggle with follow-up because it is such a clear example. You can care about people and still need a dependable process for staying connected to them.

Where the combination becomes valuable
Here are three examples of how I would approach common business challenges. These are illustrations of the method, not client case studies.
1. A sales team needs confidence—and a follow-up process
If a salesperson feels uncomfortable asking for the next conversation, an automated reminder will not resolve the hesitation. If that same person has confidence but no organized process, opportunities can still get overlooked.
I would work on the conversation and the workflow: clarify the value being offered, practice a useful next-step question, and give each inquiry a clear owner and follow-up task in the CRM. Then track response time and whether those conversations actually happen.
2. A business needs a clearer message—and a path to act
A polished website cannot explain an offer the owner has not clarified. A clear offer can also lose momentum when the page is confusing or the contact process is difficult.
I would start with three questions: Who are we helping? What problem are we helping them solve? What should they do next? Then carry those answers through the copy, search-focused content, design, and inquiry process. Measure qualified inquiries, not just visits.
3. A team needs useful AI—and people prepared to use it
“We need AI” is a starting point for a conversation. The more useful question is, “Where is repetitive work getting in the way of serving people?”
I would choose a defined task, establish what a good result looks like, train the people involved, and compare the output with the current process. Faster work only helps if it is still accurate, useful, and consistent with your voice.
My interpretation: a tool can make a meaningful difference when it supports a specific job. Understanding the people and the work helps us choose where to begin.
What this means for your next event
If you organize a conference, association meeting, leadership retreat, or business workshop, you are choosing what your audience will take back into their work.
My aim is to make the connection between a meaningful idea and a useful action clear enough that people can see where to start. A leadership message can lead into a communication exercise. A conversation about growth can lead into a follow-up map. A session on AI can begin with the business problem before introducing the tool.
Depending on your audience and format, we can shape a session around outcomes such as clearer messaging, stronger leadership conversations, or a more consistent customer journey. You can explore my business speaking and workshop options to start that conversation.
“I want people to leave with a clearer way to think and a practical way to move.”

A simple way to put it to work this week
Choose one place where progress keeps getting stuck. Then work through four questions:
- Clarify: What result do we want, and what belief, expectation, or message needs attention?
- Equip: What is the simplest process or tool that would support the right action?
- Practice: Who will do what, and when will they do it?
- Review: What will we measure, and when will we decide what to change?
For example: “When a new inquiry arrives, the CRM will assign it to a team member, and that person will make the first personal response within our agreed response window.” Now you have an action to practice and a process to review.
Bring the thinking and the doing together
The advantage I bring is the ability to work across both sides of that conversation. We can talk about confidence, communication, and leadership—and then connect those insights to messaging, marketing, follow-up, and the tools your business uses every day.
That is the value of mindset and mechanics: helping people see a clearer path and giving them a practical way to walk it.
